Tumblr or WordPress

Blogging, these days everyone is behind blogging. So with in short time many new blogging platforms have come into picture. As the literacy rate is increasing, along with it the requirement of blogging sites is increasing as people are engaged in sharing their thoughts online.

There are so many people confused about which blogging platform to choose – tumblr, wordpress or blogger.

So we at All Round News have decided to give our views on blog sites.

Recently, two platforms have come into picture as most preferred ones, WordPress and Tumblr, out of which first one is a self-hosted CMS platform, and latter one is strictly self-hosted blog platform that mixes in social networking within and mostly focus on short posts, that’s why it is also referred as tumblog.

Tumblr or WordPress ?

This is the question which arise at end when we are at stage of selecting two opposing options. Both platforms are equally good and offers distinct advantages, but there are certain aspects where one platform will be better than the other.

Tumblr – Fast micro blogging and social networking platform.

Tumblr is a micro blogging environment is very simple to use, it is preferred for new bloggers. Tumblr have a simple interface for super fast blogging but it is not feature loaded as others. Thought over all it is a fast and rapid blogging website. more over it is free.

Pros
– Tumblr’s dashboard in simple and elegant.
– A lot of third party tools are available for Tumblr
– No hosting required
– Free themes are easily available for Tumblr
– You can even manage your Tumblr from hand held devices like iPad, iPhone etc..
– You can use your own domain at Tumblr for free
– Google Tools like analytics and webmaster can be used to measure traffic stats.
Cons
– Need to tag to support search
– Limited flexibility and plugin support
– Don’t have direct RSS feed
– If u need to expand, tumblr is not for you.
– You cannot have pingback and comments in Tumblr

 

WordPress – hosted with wordpress.com

For a personal blog or for irregular blogging that has no monetary value or no future to become commercial we recommend using free wordpress.com blogging platform, it is simple to setup and includes a selection of wordpress features that u can configure free of cost.
Pros
– Million of free wordpress themes
– You can integrate wordpress with many google and other 3rd party services
– Commenting with anti-spam built with in
– Good community support.
– WordPress can be used with multiple language
Cons
– No need for domain and hosting
– Limited plugin support, can not install your own plugins
– Custom CSS / additional storage costs extra
– Ads shown from time to time
– Can not optimize for SEO

 

WordPress – self hosted on your own domain

If you still havn’t found what you need, so its time to read more, or looking to start a serious personal or commercial blog, a self hosted wordpress blog is best solution for your needs. You can have your own domain and hosting for wordpress to run on.
Pros
– This wordpress blog supports easy customization.
– You can easily choose and install millions of plugins
– Variety of themes are available for wordpress, You can even get free wordpress themes.
– Great community support in multi language.
– Excellent plugins and features for self SEO optimization
Cons
– You need to have your own domain and hosting
– You need to have little technical knowledge for maintenance.

 
In the end you can choose from either WordPress or Tumblr according to usage and needs.
